How to start a UN career

Is there a standard Personal History Form for all UN organisations?

Does every UN agency have their own Personal History Form or is there a general form for all the agencies?

Unfortunately, there is no general form for all the UN agencies but most Personal History Forms (PHF) are quite similar covering personal information such as education, employment history, languages, references etc.

UCC tips:

·      Take your time and don’t wait for the last day to apply; filling out a PHF may take you up to 3 hours!

·      Have a cover letter ready and make sure you consider the max. character limits!

·      Answer all PHF questions in a separate word document that you can save to avoid typing your answers in the online form and have the system time out on you! You will lose all your input if you haven’t saved the input.

·      References: make sure you have some contacts ready to support your application as well as their contact details!

·      Don’t forget to mention unpaid volunteer positions and internships

·      Avoid overlapping employment periods unless followed by explanatory text

·      Include a detailed description of the main responsibilities and tasks you carried out during each period of employment

·      Be truthful accurate and specific

·      Proofread before submitting
