Can you work for the UN without a degree?

What should I major in to work for the UN? Is it required to have an advanced university degree for a career with the UN?

Good news! the answer is no! There are UN system professional roles that only require a Bachelor’s Degree!

Our advice, before applying carefully read through the job description. The “Education” section will give you more details on what degree is sufficient for the role.

For example, a recent UNODC job description post stated: “An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, public administration, law or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

The UN system vacancy will also reveal other useful information such as what languages are required for the role and how many years of experience you need for the vacant UN role.
