Getting one’s foot in the United Nations system is not an easy task and, as you might have experienced, the application process is rather time-consuming and complex.
Applying for a job at the U.N. in less than 15 minutes is ambitious due to the detailed nature of the application process, but we have summarised 5 tips on how you can streamline the process:

1. Create a UN Careers Account

Visit the UN Careers Portal: Go to the UN Careers website.

Register: Click on "Register as a user" and fill in the necessary information to create an account.

2. Prepare Your Documents in Advance

Prepare a generic cover letter that you can quickly customize for specific job applications. Taior your applications document to the job you apply for and dont forget to reflect UN related core values and competencies.

Tip: organize your educational and professional certificates and diplomas.

3. Search for Jobs Efficiently

Quickly search for job openings using relevant keywords and apply filters for location (!), job family, and level to narrow down the search results.

4. Select a Job, read Requirements & complete application with auto fill

Identify key job qualifications and requirements to ensure you meet them before applying; read the full vacancy including language criteria, diplomas needed and the special notice on the last page.

Input your personal details into the form (this can be auto-filled if your browser supports it) and have a document with your employment history and educational background details ready to copy-paste information.

Education Details: Similarly, have your educational background details ready for quick input.

Upload your CV, cover letter and any additional documents needed.

5. Review and Submit

Review your application quickly to ensure all fields are completed and correct. and finaly press sumbit to send your application.

By preparing in advance and using efficient search and application techniques, you can streamline the process significantly.
