Master the Art of Diplomacy - how choosing the right words can kickstart your global career

Language is not only an instrument of communication, but the very essence of diplomacy. Diplomats engage in meetings, negotiations, persuasion, and presentation, all of which necessitate, among other skills, effective communication!

The written and the spoken language as well as active listening require the mastering of concepts, skills and need to consider message and context.

For those of you who are not yet Diplomats or Ambassadors and are at the beginning of your international career, it's often equally important to choose the right words; for example when crafting your cover letter or at an interview.

The words and phrases you choose in your resume, application documents or interview can have a surprisingly powerful impact.

It's our great honour to announce our next special guest speaker, senior Diplomat Leigh Turner, the former British Ambassador in Vienna and the Ukraine who will join the United Career Coalitions (UCC) upcoming 40minute webinar on November 23rd at 3pm U.K. time.

Registration is now closed, to see a recoding of our webinar please head over to our webinar page.

Learn about diplomacy, the skills and qualities required of diplomats and get exclusive insights and a better understanding on the diplomatic career path.

Simply thinking about diplomacy and defaulting to thinking diplomatically—rather than thinking confrontationally or selfishly—is more likely to help you accomplish your career and life goals.

Ambassador Turner will share personal stories and tips on being a good diplomat and will answer, among other, questions on:

  • What diplomatic skills does one need to navigate today’s complex challenges and how can one train such skills?

  • Wisdom, loyalty and diligence are some of the qualities needed to become an ambassador but how do you acquire those qualities? And can you pass them on?

  • It is estimated that most people will have 12 jobs during their lives. With so many career changes-some of them into completely new fields- is the diplomatic career path still suitable for the next generation?

Mr Turner is not only a senior British Diplomat but also an Author and Financial Times Journalist; you might be interested to read his book Blood Summit and/or follow his Amazon Author Page, which has all his published books.

We look forward to welcoming many active participants and listeners interested in a global career.
